Cars, Candy, and Costumes—Oh My!

Trunk or Treat 2025
Trunk or Treat 2025

Valley City Parks and Recreation wrapped up a busy month of October events with a spooktacular evening in Chautauqua Park for our annual Trunk or Treat!

Twelve local businesses and organizations joined us for a beautiful night in the park, transforming their trunks and booths into festive Halloween scenes. From creative costumes to decked-out displays, families drove through the park loop to collect treats, see familiar faces, and enjoy the fall evening together.

Every child received a free Halloween goodie bag packed with fun trinkets, snacks, and candy—because everyone deserves a little extra Halloween magic!

Trunk or Treat first began in 2020 as a creative, safe way to celebrate Halloween during the COVID-19 pandemic. What started as a simple drive-thru event has grown into a beloved community tradition—one that continues to bring people together each fall.

We were also joined by Kiwanis Valley City, who collected donations for local food pantries. Thanks to the generosity of our community, they gathered 8 boxes, 2 large bags, and ~$90 in donations for the Barnes County Food Pantry, Hi-Liner Pantry, and Buffalo Bridges Pantry.

This year’s Trunk or Treat capped off an exciting October filled with festive events, including our Parktober Festival, a free Halloween movie at Valley Twin Cinema, the Halloween Costume Fun Run, and the Spooky Spike Showdown sand volleyball tournament.

Congratulations to the best booth theme winners: Valley City Girl Scout Troop 31027!

A huge thank-you to everyone who showed up, dressed up, donated, or simply came to enjoy the fun. Your support helps make these community events possible—and we can’t wait to see what next year has in store! 🎃
