Amy is our Recreation Manager. She manages all Youth and Adult Programs. She is always thinking of new activities and what is trending in other communities that we can try in Valley City. Amy loves working with the youth and watching them grow in sports and teamwork, but also helping adults continue to stay active and continue their sports career or maybe even try it for the 1st time. She also oversees some special activities like: Ruckus at the Rec, youth basketball tournaments and summer adaptive programs. Amy makes sure staff is trained in the area of work, making sure schedules don’t conflict either field use or programs, planning and organizing programs and everything else that goes with it.
Thank you, Amy, for all your hard work & dedication to Parks and Rec!

Darvin is the Grounds Keeper at our Bjornson Golf Course. As the Golf Course Superintendent, Darvin keeps the golfing greens in immaculate shape. From early April before the course is open till late November after the course closes, Darvin is preparing the greens and the course for a beautiful season of golf. To maintain the grounds, all the equipment must be up and running, where Darvin and Jim keep equipment working day to day. During the off season this is when all equipment is detailed, sharpened and cleaned; ready to go for the next season of golf.
Thank you, Darvin, for all your hard work & dedication to Parks and Rec!
Aaron is the Maintenance Supervisor for the Gaukler Family Wellness Center or our Mad Scientist at Ruckus at the Rec. 😊. Having a wellness center in a community our size is pretty remarkable. Aaron takes great pride in having a clean facility and makes sure his staff feels the same with the recent pandemic, having a safe and clean facility has become even more important. Also, making sure the boiler system is functioning properly, the air handling units have no issues, changing filters monthly, ordering cleaning products for the entire Park District and if anything isn’t working, he makes the necessary repairs.
Thank you, Aaron, for all your hard work & dedication to Parks and Rec!
Ashley is our Office Manager/HR. She is more of a non-typical office manager because tasks can range immensely. Paying all our invoices to keep our facilities running, and our crews up and running with equipment to do their daily jobs. Running payroll for 60+ staff each pay period during the non-summer months up to 90+ during summer rec, are two typical day to day tasks. Along with a few regular office duties, not to bore you with. However, if anyone in the district needs help, she is happy to get out of the office and help someone out when needed. Her creative thoughts go into helping plan and initiate July’s National Parks and Rec month activities.
Thank you, Ashley, for all your hard work & dedication to Parks and Rec!
Diane is our Administrative Assistant. In 20 years of work, a person sees a lot of change in a job. Technology, facility, job expectations and age are large changes Diane has endured with Parks & Rec. Working with a younger demographic, Diane never forgets about keeping our Seniors as top priority. She is always looking out for the best interest in making sure Parks & Rec is up to date with taking insurance benefits not only for the Seniors but all working personnel who hold insurance. Now if you don’t have insurance, Diane works closely with the Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation to ensure all ages can take part in activities or fitness memberships. To show her love for the parks in the summer, Diane’s baby is Music in the Park. She is the heart and soul behind all the Wednesday night live music in City Park. She lines it all up, advertises and is at almost every show.
Thank you, Diane, for your hard work and dedication to Parks & Rec.
Mike is our Building and Grounds Superintendent. Maintaining all the park district parks, ball fields and campground keeps him busy. Keeping the facilities and irrigation running during the summer, the winter month brings lots of snow removal. It is very essential to the community to have quality parks and facilities to attend for physical and mental health. A lot of hard work from Mike and his small crew keeps our Parks looking clean and beautiful for our Community to use while enjoying the outdoors all year round.
Thank you, Mike, for your hard work and dedication to Parks & Rec.
Tyler Jacobson is our Director of Valley City Parks and Recreation. When asked, he states, “he has great staff working for me, making my job easy!” He oversees entire operations of VCPR. Prepares budget, plans major projects, and provides assistance to all areas. “Our job is essential because when everyone else is playing we are working. We want to provide a quality of life to the residents of Valley City that is top notch. Planning for tomorrow and not just today is something we take pride in. We want our programs to be affordable to all and find ways to offer assistance if needed.”

Jim is the jack of all trades Park Shop Superintendent. Making sure all park district equipment is up and running, Jim maintains all equipment for basic oil change tasks to welding up repairs. If not working on equipment, Jim is building something whether it be out of wood or metal. If you need it Jim will find a way to create what your image is. You can see a lot of Jim’s work around our parks and facilities from pull up bars, weight racks, and benches are just a few to name.
Thank you, Jim, for your hard work and dedication to Parks & Rec.
