What is Mr. Basketball Academy?

Mr. Basketball Academy is a summer camp for ages K-8th grade. Work on agility, conditioning, mental capacity (always thinking to give the extra effort and what it takes to play championship basketball), and fundamentals including ballhandling and shooting. Founded by Valley City Hi-Liner Tyron Terry, Mr. Basketball Academy is the perfect program for players of all ages to learn the sport of basketball.

Grades as of Fall 2022.

 

K – 3rd Grade:

  • 8:00 A.M. – 9:30 A.M.
  • 50 participant maximum

Early Registration Fee: $50.00

4th – 6th Grade:

  • 9:45 A.M. – 12:00 Noon
  • 50 participant maximum

More about Tyron Terry:

Tyron Terry is an experienced trainer and coach and has been involved with the sport of basketball for over 25 years. As a player at Valley City High School in North Dakota, Terry led the Hi-Liners to back-to-back state tournament appearances, was an all-state selection his junior and senior seasons and was named North Dakota Mr. Basketball in 2000.

After graduation, he continued his career, playing two years at North Dakota State University and two years at Valley City State University, where he was named an all-conference performer in the Dakota Athletic Conference in 2004-05.

Terry has been training and coaching youth programs in Elk River and surrounding areas the past few years, forming Mr. Basketball Academy in 2019. In addition to individual and group training, Terry has worked with a number of youth traveling programs as a coach and served as a Varsity Assistant and JV coach at Spectrum High School.

Terry is married to wife Heidi and has seven children. His eldest son, Tyrell, was the 31st selection in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks and is currently in his rookie season.

Terry also formed the Tyshon Terry Foundation in honor of his late son that unexpectedly passed away in 2018. The mission of this initiative is to change inequality and injustice through education of life skills and financial literacy.

    • Mr. Basketball Academy camps and clinics are focused solely on the purpose to be educational to the participants. The objective is to provide every possible resource so that they can increase the participant’s percentage of successful basketball career
